FAQs
How safe are dental X-rays?
Dental X-rays pose a very small risk, and we take extra care to make sure children are only exposed to limited radiation. We use lead aprons and high-speed films to limit exposure and keep everyone safe.
How can parents help to prevent tooth decay?
There are many steps you can take as a parent to prevent tooth decay in your children. Here are some important ones:
- Take your child to the dentist regularly, starting when the first tooth erupts.
- Follow our instructions for brushing, flossing, and other treatments.
- Make sure your child brushes and flosses regularly and eats a well-balanced diet.
Are you taking new patients?
Yes! We practice referral-only based medicine, and we are thrilled when patients recommend us to family and friends.
What happens during my first visit?
We’ll perform a complete assessment of your oral health in order to make sure you get the treatment you need. We’ll screen for oral cancer, look at the muscles and joints in the mouth, and examine your teeth, gums, and bone. We may also take photos and X-rays. Once we have a complete assessment, we can determine the treatment that’s right for you.
How can I make my teeth whiter?
There are many methods for making teeth whiter. We can use whitening treatments in the office or place porcelain veneers. Dentist-prescribed whitening systems tend to work best, as they gradually change the color of the teeth with minimal (if any) side effects. There are also at-home options. Let us know if you’d like a cosmetic consultation, and we can fully discuss your needs and goals with you.
What kind of toothpaste is best?
Toothpaste isn’t the most important part of brushing your teeth – the technique (and frequency!) is what is most important. What’s important is that you find a toothpaste with fluoride and tartar control. Try to stay away from whitening brands, as they are abrasive and can wear away the enamel on your teeth.
Should I use an electric or manual toothbrush?
We recommend using an electric toothbrush – they’re well-designed, easy-to-use, and readily available. There are numerous brands on the market that can work well. If you like, we can give you our recommendations regarding a specific brand or model.
What do you offer for the nervous, anxious patient?
Plenty of people still have concerns and fears, and we want to help. We provide a full array of options to make sure that no patient has an unpleasant experience with us. Please ask us about the different methods we have to keep you calm, relaxed, and comfortable.
